Excise sleuths seize 12.5 mts of polythene bags at Lakhanpur

KATHUA, June 28: The sleuths of Excise Department today foiled yet another major bid of smuggling of polythene bags into the State and seized 12500 kgs (12.5mts) of polythene bags.
The Excise sleuths while subjecting a truck bearing registration number JK02A X -6807 original one and changed number plate JK02AW-8920 to physical check at the Toll Post Lakhanpur which reported for clearance found it loaded with polythene bags which were covered under cattle feed.
The Excise Department sleuths seized both vehicle and polythene bags and handed over the same to police as the vehicle was having a forged number plate, said Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Vishesh Paul Mahajan. He said the smugglers now have changed the strategy and they were concealing the smuggled items under the goods so that they can’t be traced during checking.
He said the district police headed by SSP, Kathua, Shridhar Patil rendered a tremendous cooperation in foiling the attempts of the smugglers.
The entire operation as supervised by Dy Excise Commissioner, Vishesh Paul Mahajan and carried out by Taxation officers, Sourabh Sharma, Suraj Chander Singh, Sandeep Gupta, Inspectors, Dheeraj Kumar, Sub Inspectors, Kanwaljit Shan, Touseef Sheikh, Surinder Singh Bagal, Manvinder Pal Singh, Ravinder Singh and Vijay Kumar along with Excise Guard Mohammed Rafi.
The drive was launched under the directives of Excise Commissioner,  Anoo Malhotra.
