JAMMU, Dec 18: SOS International – an organization for PoK Displaced Persons today held dharna outside its headquarters, here at Bakshi Nagar, to warn the Government over its biased and brutal approach against PoK DPs.
Thousands of PoK Displaced Persons sat on dharna spearheaded by SOS International chairman, Rajiv Chuni and expressed resentment by raising slogans against the Government. The dharna was held over five main key issues related to PoK DPs including implementation of PoK DPs package passed by NC-Congress Cabinet in 2014 in toto, formation of uniform policy for all the displaced communities including PoK DPs, establishment of corridors for PoK DPs to visit their religious places & shrines, restoration of 1/3rd i.e. 8 frozen seats lying vacant for PoK DPs in Legislative Assembly and inclusion of 5300 DPs’ families living outside the State in the ambit of package for PoK DPs.
While attacking on the biased approach of Government, Chuni said that the package passed by NC-Congress coalition Government in the year 2014 in which Rs 25 lakh cash as ex-gratia grant, reservation to wards of PoK DPs in professional and technical colleges across the country, employment package for unemployed youths were incorporated must be implemented in letter and spirit otherwise S0S International will go on indefinite dharna.
He further said that BJP’s slogan `Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ is confined to only Valley migrants as Saffron Party keeps on focusing for the ‘Vikas’ of this specific community neglecting other Displaced Persons especially PoK DPs.
“To stop discrimination, there is utmost need of uniform policy for all the displaced persons. Similar beneficiary schemes that have been made for Valley migrants must be made for PoK Displaced Persons and others. Benefits like Rs 13, 000 monthly cash assistance, Rs 2,000 for monthly ration, Rs 1,000 for monthly Kerosene oil, free school education, reservation in professional and technical colleges across nation to the wards, reservation in employment, free shelter, Income Tax exemption and many others that Valley Migrants are getting must be given to PoK DPs who have been spending their lives in utmost inhumane conditions,” Chuni asserted.
“Hindus and Sikhs whose religious places are there in PoK want to pay their obeisance there. Therefore, Government must take a positive decision and give permission to them”, he added.
He further said that every day 5 PoK DPs will sit on chain dharna at SOS International office starting from end of this week until their demands are met.
