JAMMU, June 26: Former minister and senior Congress leader Mula Ram has urged upon the Government to exempt all vehicles from toll tax during the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra in the Jammu region.
In a meeting organised by Hari Singh Chib, president District Congress Committee, Jammu Rural here today, the former minister informed that Government should take all possible efforts for the successful completion of annual Amarnath Yatra and should also ensure healthy stay of Yatris at Jammu. It is the responsibility of J&K Government to provide all sorts of facilities to the pilgrims coming from across the country to perform the pilgrimage.
Pertinent to mention here that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan directed that there would be Toll tax exemption for all kinds of vehicles at Chachikoot Toll Plaza on National Highway during Amarnath Yatra period.
Mula Ram appreciated the timely decision of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir in respect of Hindu pilgrimage. He said such type of efforts promote communal harmony and brotherhood in the State, which is also the need of the hour. But it is unfortunate that the Divisional Commissioner Jammu has not shown his serious concern for relaxation of Toll tax in Jammu region, he added.
Hari Singh Chib said that more than one crore pilgrims from across the country visited Jammu and Kashmir to perform the pilgrimage of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and Baba Amarnath Shrine on which the economy of Jammu and Kashmir is sustaining. Otherwise being the disturbed State, people will not prefer to visit J&K, he said.
In view of pilgrim tourism, Chib stressed that Government should exempt Toll tax at all toll posts from Lakhanpur to the base camps of Baltal and should promote tourism destinations of Jammu regions.
Chib appealed to the Governor’s administration to make sure that all necessary arrangements are made well before in time besides the need for close coordination among different agencies for the successful conduct of Amarnath Yatra.
Among others who were present in the meeting included Virender Kesar, Raj Kumar, Amit Thakur, Bharat Bhushan, Raj Kumar, Ashok Dogra, Ranjit Singh, Bharat Bhushan and Pritam Singh.
