Exhibition, seminar on ‘Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh through Ages’ organised

JAMMU, Sept 14: Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi has organised a week long exhibition on ‘Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh through the ages: A visual Narrative of continuities and linkages’ in collaboration with Department of Strategic and Regional Studies, University of Jammu; Kala Kendra Society, Jammu and Jammu Kashmir Study Centre, Delhi.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the Chief Secretary of J&K, Atal Dulloo, in the presence of several eminent dignitaries including Suresh Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary Culture, J&K.
The exhibition will remain open to general public till September 20.
A seminar was also organised where various dignitaries highlighted different historic and cultural perspectives on Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
The exhibition started with welcome address by Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary, Kala Kendra Jammu.
Afterwards, Dr. Noopur Singh, Deputy Director (Research), ICHR gave a brief intro about ICHR and their role as premier historical research institution.
Prof. Lalit Gupta, a renowned art historian, gave a brief introduction to the exhibition and provided valuable insights.
Prof. Shonaleeka Kaul, Centre for Historical Studies, JNU was keynote speaker and she highlighted the concept of Bharatvarsha.
Prof. Anju Bhasin, Dean Academic Affairs and officiating Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu argued that it is a moral responsibility of the University of Jammu to spread awareness about the magnificent history of J&K.
Suresh Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary Culture was guest of honour and he highlighted the rich history of erstwhile State of J&K and its historical and cultural evolution over the years.
Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary J&K was chief guest and he said that this exhibition was a visual representation of history of five-thousand years.
Prof. Suman Jamwal, Head, Department of History, University of Jammu, Prof. Sham Narayan Lal, Department of History, University of Jammu, Prof. Sindhu Kapoor, Joint Director, SCERT Jammu and Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary, Kala Kendra Jammu also spoke on the occasion.
This event was hosted by Dr. Chahukeshi Jamwal, Research Associate, DSRS.
Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Virender Koundal, Director, DSRS, University of Jammu.
