SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli told the Excelsior after visiting the spot that a small trench has been created near compound wall of the temple but no damage has been caused to the religious place.
“The incident took place around 1 am. However, there were no splinter of explosives device around,” he said and didn’t rule out the incident as “an act of militancy”.
Kohli said entire area was immediately cordoned off after the blast and hunt was launched for those responsible for the act.
Few days back, police had busted two modules of militants in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district. The arrested militants had disclosed that they had been tasked by their handlers in Pakistan to target the temples to trigger communal tension.
Recently, the militants had lobbed grenade towards a temple in Jandi area in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district.
Police have busted number of militant modules recently in Jammu, Poonch and Reasi districts which were planning to revive militancy in the Jammu region at the behest of their handlers sitting in Pakistan.
