Srinagar, Dec 31: Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today asked people to remain vigilant to expose the anti-Islam enemies.
While addressing a gathering in the premises of Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz called for unity to expose black sheep involved in desecration of Jamia Masjid.
He said people have the greatest attachment to the grand mosque and any ill-treatment to it would not be tolerated.
He also urged people to make Youm-i-Taqadus programme on Friday a success.
Meanwhile, Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir today expressed its deep anguish and anxiety over the anti-Islamic act of desecration of Jamia Masjid Srinagar, which has remained the pivotal centre for propagation and promotion of Islamic teachings and values for centuries together.
“Some disgruntled elements at the behest of some anti-Islamic agencies by raising black flag on the very sacred pulpit of this grand Masjid Have hurt the sentiments of the millions of Muslims living over here,” JeI said in a statement.
JeI said the pulpit of Masjid is meant for spreading the sacred message of the Qur’an and Sunnah and create unity of heart and soul among the Muslim community but not to raise conflicting flags.
“These boys must utilize their capabilities for promoting the cause of Islam and not to be swayed away by the vested interests and the enemies of Islam who are bent upon to create disunity among Muslim community in order to divest them off the Islamic identity,” he said.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that the Jamia Masjid and its pulpit were the important landmarks of the religion and that “barbaric forces” can’t be allowed to bring “bad-name” to Islam.
Mehbooba in a tweet said that she called Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and conveyed her outrage on the incident that took place on Friday.
“Jama Masjid & it’s pulpit are most important landmarks of our religious, cultural moorings. Can’t allow barbaric forces to defile it in the name of Islam,” she tweeted.
“Appearance of a few youth with IS flag in Jama Masjid Srinagar is desecration of the most important institution of Kashmir’s religious, social life. Called @MirwaizKashmir, Umar sahheb to convey my outrage,” she wrote in another tweet.
