Exposure of Pakistan in UNHRC opens new options: Chrungoo

JAMMU, Sept 20: “The recent exposure of Pakistan by an activist of Pakistan occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK) in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Geneva session brings the situation in the PoJK, Gilgit and Baltistan before the world very aptly. It creates new options for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to attract attention of the world towards the worsening human rights situation in the PoJK, Gilgit and Baltistan”, said Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, senior BJP and Kashmiri Pandit leader and incharge, Department of Political Affairs and Feedback, J&K-BJP.
He said Amjad Ayub Mirza, an UK based activist from PoJK, told UN that “people in the region are desperate for freedom from Pakistan and want to join the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh”.
Chrungoo maintained that speaking during a dialogue on the ‘Right of Development’ in the UN Human Rights Council, Mirza, who heads the UK-based rights group, Centre for Environmental and Management Studies, said that anti-terrorism laws imposed by Pakistan are being used as a tool to crush any dissent. “We have urged the UN to address the case of foreign occupation of PoJK. But the world seems to have been hypnotised by the fake narrative spun by Pakistan Government”.
Chrungoo said his bold stand and declaration that, “My people are desperate to take freedom from Pakistan and join J&K and Ladakh. “I request the UN to lend me an ear if it wants to end the desperation of my people”.
“The frank admission of Mirza regarding China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), that rivers are being diverted for hydropower projects and this is leading to water shortages in PoJK is also alarming. “The statement of Mirza that their women refuse to take cover in the bunkers during the cross-border firing in PoJK because Pakistan soldiers molest them which is a serious pointer towards the grave human rights violations of the locals in the PoJK.” he added.
Chrungoo also criticized the National Conference MP and the former Chief Minister favouring India -Pakistan dialogue. It is absurd even to think of a dialogue with the neighbouring country responsible for cross-border terrorism in India.
The Pakistan over the last four decades has miserably failed to keep its commitments regarding terrorism. It allowed the land under its control to be used for terrorism against India, Afghanistan and other countries and gave these terror regimes arms, ammunition, funds and trainings”.
