JAMMU, Jan 15: Exposure visits of FPOs representatives to Wool & Textiles Processing Industry at national level will enhance the skill of our wool grower farmers to produce quality wool in J&K.
This was stated by Dr. Romesh Khajuria, Chairman WWEPC while flagging off an exposure tour of members/entrepreneurs of FPOs of Jammu division in wool sector here.
During five day tour of wool producer farmers organised in form of FPOs by Jammu Sheep Husbandry Department, the wool producer farmers will visit the wool industry in Delhi / NCR, Panipat and Ludhiana industrial clusters.
The tour will be coordinated by Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC).
Dr. Romesh Khajuria informed that earlier also such three exposure tours of farmers, one from Jammu division and two from Kashmir division were coordinated by WWEPC which were organised by Sheep Husbandry Departments of Jammu and Kashmir divisions respectively.
He further stated that about seven million kg wool is being produced in J&K annually but unfortunately large volume of it is not in use and is wasted due to its small staple length and lack of early stage processing industry in J&K.
Khajuria emphasised that Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) should be implemented in its real spirit so that wool sector can get benefits like capacity building of wool producer farmers and proper marketing process as designed in HADP scheme.
Dr. Khajuria also said that 20 FPOs from all 10 districts of Jammu division are on 5 days exposure tour for capacity building of wool producer farmers under HADP scheme initiated by Govt of J&K being implemented by Sheep Husbandry Department.
Dr. Moin Ul Haq, Director Sheep Husbandary, Jammu also addressed the members of the FPOs.
Dr. Pritam Manhas along with other officers and staff were also present.
