Extension lecture on ‘Bio Diversity’ held

JAMMU, Dec 4: Department of Geology, Government PG College Rajouri organized an extension lecture on the subject “Bio-Diversity–An Overview”.
On the occasion, the guest faculty was Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Chowdhary, Associate Prof, Department of Environmental Sciences, Central University Himachal Pradesh. In addition to teaching faculty a large number of students of the College participated in the programme.
Dr Chowdhary with the help of power presentation discussed Bio-Diversity in general and threw light on the number of species present on the earth. He also explained the various causes of the extinction of species and major among them were habitat destruction and anthropogenetic factors.
An interactive session was also held during the programme.
Principal of the College, Prof Shabir Hussain Shah laid emphasis on the fact that the bio-diversity needs to be conserved at all costs.
Among others who spoke included Prof Haqeeqat Singh, HOD Chemistry, Dr Umar Farooq, Department of Botany, Mohammad Altaf, HOD Geology and Masood Ahmed, Department of Geology.
Professor Manzoor Mimed Dar managed the stage.
