Extension lecture on ‘Cyber Laws’ organised

JAMMU, Oct 10: Government College for Women Bhagwati Nagar organised an extension lecture on “Cyber Laws” under Cyber Jagrookta initiative of Ministry of Home Affairs, wherein Advocate Shivani Jalali, J&K High Court was the resource person on the occasion, today.
The cyber law is a term used to describe legal issues related to use of communication technology, particularly cyber space i.e, internet to prevent cyber crimes which aim to damage the network for reasons like money and other profits. Adv Shivani Jalali gave an in depth lecture related to legal informatics and how it supervises the digital circulation of information, software, information security and e-commerce.
She also enlightened the students about intellectual property, privacy, freedom of expression and expressed that cyber laws play an important role to integrate the challenges presented by human activities on the internet with the legal system of laws applicable to the physical world.
She further elaborated that due to the anonymous nature of the internet, it is possible to engage into a variety of criminal activities, and hence the need for cyber laws in India are very important as it touches almost all aspects of transactions and activities on and concerning the internet.
Principal Dr Meeru Abrol also spoke on the occasion about the fraudulent practices on worldwide web and cyber space and urgency to provide ways to deal with cyber crime.
The programme ended with an interactive session wherein the students raised various queries regarding cyber crimes and cyber laws.  The programme was organised by Prof Nisha Bhagat, Convenor Cyber Jagrookta Initiative.
