UDHAMPUR, Sept 8: Extensive relief works are on in flood -ravaged Udhampur where 27 people are reportedly dead, District Development Commissioner Yasha Mudgal today said.
In a press conference the DDC told the media persons that relief operation and restoration works were continuing in the district. As many as 27 people have died, 504 fully damaged houses, 996 partially damaged houses, 122 cattle sheds have collapsed and 79 cattle heads have perished in to floods. Of the 27 confirmed deaths in the district, 20 will be given an ex-gratia relief immediately.
Extending sympathies to the bereaved families, the DDC said all efforts were being made by the administration to save the lives and the property of the people, particularly in those areas which have been affected badly.
She ensured that emergency supplies such as tents, blankets and ration were dispatched and distributed among the victims of the natural calamity.
The DDC assured that the district administration has fully geared up men and machinery to face any eventuality. She also appealed to the NGOs and people of the district to come forward to help the flood affected victims.
