Extortionist SOG man arrested

Srinagar, June 4: An extortionist policeman of Special Operation Group (SOG), was arrested in outskirts of Srinagar city last evening after locals beat him to pulp.
Sources said that policeman Bilal Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Mohidin of Gulab Bagh, Zakura who is working with SOG in South Kashmir’s Tral area barged into the house of Mohammad Shafi Wani son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani at Umerabad locality of Umerhear in Buchpora on the city outskirts at around 11:30 last night.
Posing as militant, they said, Ganie tried to overpower the family and demanded Rs 2 lakhs. However, the family members caught hold of Ganie.
Ganie tried to escape and fired few shots in air. The locals rushed to the spot and thrashed the extortionist and he was injured.
People of the area called the local police which immediately rushed to the spot and arrested the accused SOG man and recovered rifle from him. He was rushed to the SKIMS hospital for treatment.
Police have registered a case (under FIR No. 48/2014 under Section 457, 393 RPC) against the extortionist. Another case (FIR 49 /2014 under Section 336, 353) has been registered against the persons involved in the beating of the SOG man.
