SRINAGAR, Sept 10: Pampore Police busted extortionists’ gang with the arrest of three members.
As per police spokesman, a case FIR Number 105/2021 under relevant Sections was registered at Police Station Pampore against a gang of extortionists who were extorting money from gullible people in Pampore area.
“The gang members used to stop their car at various bus stops in Pampore and offered free lift especially to elderly people. After driving some distance, the gang used to stop the vehicle at some abandoned place and extorted money and other valuable items from the victims. The victims were later dropped from the vehicle at the place of extortion. The gang also pretended to be dervishes and entered homes of innocent people and later looted them taking advantage of their trust. This way the gang was active in the area and had extorted money from a number of elderly people”, the spokesman added.
The spokesman informed that a police team led by SDPO Pampore after gathering tangible evidence arrested three accused. The vehicle bearing registration number JK04B 5996 used for the commission of offence has also been seized.
“The accused have been identified as Akther Hussain Shah, son of Abdul Rashid Shah, Firdous Ahmed Shah, son of Abdul Rashid Shah and Mohammad Rustum Shah, son of Nazir Ahmad Shah, trio residents of Nadihal, District Baramulla”, the spokesman said, adding that extorted money worth Rs 1,15,000 has also been recovered from the possession of the accused which shall be released in favour of the victims.
