Srinagar, Feb 24: Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), Wasim Raja, today announced the initiative to revitalize the evenings in Gulmarg, aiming to draw more tourists to the picturesque destination.
In an interview with Excelsior, Raja addressed tourist feedback indicating that evenings in Gulmarg lacked liveliness.
To address this, he revealed plans to organize musical programs featuring local artists, aiming to infuse energy into the atmosphere.
“We will work to enhance the vibrancy here; more winter sports events will be held, and our overarching goal is to ensure Gulmarg remains lively even in the winter months amidst the snow,” he stated.
Reflecting on the ongoing Khelo India Winter Games being held in Gulmarg, Raja acknowledged the challenges faced in making necessary arrangements.
However, he commended the exceptional planning and execution by the administration and other concerned departments, making the event possible.
As part of efforts to attract tourists, Raja highlighted the introduction of heli-skiing this year, noting its increasing popularity among visitors seeking both joy and adventure.
“Several other initiatives are in the pipeline, and we are committed to making Gulmarg even more vibrant,” he added.
Raja emphasized the positive impact of enhancing Gulmarg’s vibrancy on local service providers, enabling them to earn their livelihood while ensuring tourists have a memorable experience.
“We are determined to elevate the entire setup to the next level, and you will see that happening soon,” he affirmed.
Describing Gulmarg as a “Winter Wonderland,” Raja highlighted the surge in tourist arrivals following recent snowfall.
“Today, hotels are fully booked; the influx of tourists has risen significantly. Last year, we welcomed 15 lakh tourists, but this year, we aim to surpass that record,” he said.
