Srinagar, May 6: In its crackdown on youth, the Shopian district administration today booked a youth under Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted him to Udhampur district jail.
District Magistrate Shopian in its order No. 01/DM/PSA/2014 and dated April 29, 2014 slapped PSA on Turray and lodged him to district jail Udhampur.
Police said the youth identified as Zubair Ahmad Turray son of Bashir Ahmad Turray of Bonebazar, Shopian, was arrested just ahead of the Parliamentary polling for South Kashmir seat.
It is for the second time that Turray has been booked under PSA. Earlier on April 2013 he was sent to jail under PSA and was freed only after the intervention of Judiciary.
As controversy erupted over the age of the alleged stone pelter of Pulwama who has been booked under PSA, police today claimed the youth was 18-years-old and not minor as claimed by his family.
A police spokesman said police during its probe in the matter checked with the District Election office, Pulwama, wherein Waseem Bashir Sofi son of Bashir Ahmed Sofi has been issued Electoral card no. LKM0847947.
“He is the resident of Dangerpora, Pulwama, and figures at serial number 837 and his age is depicted as 18 years. His original date of birth in the school records is 02/09/1995, which has been tampered with,” the spokesman claimed.
The spokesman said the matter of tampering of school records is also being probed.
Pulwama town observed a complete shut down on Monday against the arrest of youth and slapping of PSA against Waseem and shifting him to Kathua jail. His family attempted self-immolation against his arrest and claimed that as per the school leaving certificate the date of birth of their son is 02/09/1998.
Police also said that they have detained a youth from Downtown, Srinagar, for running seven facebook pages which spread rumours. The detained youth is working in a private company.
“After lodging FIR against the admins of some pages spreading rumours to vitiate law and order situation on facebook, a special team was constituted at cyber cell to identify them,” the police spokesman said.
He said scores of pages spreading rumours have been identified, adding, other admins have also been identified on his disclosure who will be detained shortly for further investigation.
