JAMMU, May 3: J&K Students’ Association (JKSA) today made a written plea to External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S Jaishankar urging him to facilitate travel of over 100 Kashmiri medical students to Bangladesh.
In a statement issued today, spokesperson of the Association Nasir Khuehami said that over 100 Kashmiri medical students pursuing studies in Bangladesh and currently stuck in Kashmiri due to Pandemic, have been informed by their respective colleges and universities in Bangladesh that examinations will commence from 31st May and thus they are required to return immediately.
He said that their exams were postponed on 3rd April and were told that date sheet will be announced at least 2 weeks after Eid-ul-Fitr. “Due to second deadly wave of COVID-19 in India, hundreds of students returned to India recently and now all of sudden date sheet has been announced with exam starting from 31st May,” he said.
Khuehami said students are running short on time as on return they have to complete a 14-day mandatory quarantine in Bangladesh also. He said as Bangladesh Government has suspended air travel, students must be ensured a flight back in this critical situation. The future of hundreds of students is at stake, he further added.
He requested EAM to take immediate steps to resolve the issue on humanitarian grounds and make all possible efforts to facilitate their travel. He urged EAM to direct concerned officials to act swiftly and provide necessary assistance to Kashmiri students, so that they may attend examination on time and save their precious academic year.
