Fact-finding committee to examine DDC member’s complaint against cops

UDHAMPUR, May 25: A fact finding committee has been constituted to look into the complaint of District Development Council member Latti against police after she was allegedly stopped and misbehaved by cops at a check point.
The issue regarding the incident of argument by police naka party with the DDC member Latti, Pinky Devi was taken up by District Development Council Chairperson Udhampur, Lal Chand with Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Indu Kanwal Chib and SSP Udhampur, Sargun Shukla.
An official spokesman said that after the discussions, the SSP assured the DDC Chairperson that a Fact Finding Committee under SDPO Chenani shall submit the report with specific recommendations with regard to the lapses.
The female DDC member has accused the police of highhandedness after she was stopped at a checkpoint while on her way to meet DC Udhampur on the weekend.
A video showing the woman DDC member pleading with the policemen to allow her to cross the checkpoint with the vehicle had gone viral on social media, raising question mark on the powers of the recently elected public representatives.
The Udhampur DDC members also took a strong note of the incident and demanded strict disciplinary action against the policemen and issuance of an advisory to ensure their hassle-free movement to supervise Corona virus containment measures in their areas.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur has issued directions to all officers with regard to the maintaining of protocol of the DDC members and assured to intervene in a manner to avoid such an incident being repeated.
Pertinent to mention that incident of alleged misbehaviour with another female DDC member had also taken place in Reasi district.
As already reported in today’s edition of the Excelsior, DDC member Pouni, Rita Sharma was allegedly misbehaved by BDO Pouni during a telephonic conversation between the two over some official work following which a committee was constituted yesterday by Assistant Commissioner Development, Reasi to enquire into complaint in this regard.
