Faculty Development Programme begins at Commerce College

JAMMU, Mar 2: A two week Faculty Development Progr-amme (FDP) on `Information Communication Technology a modern education – The way forward,’ is being organised by Higher Education Department from today at Govt SPMR College of Commerce Jammu.
The workshop was inaugurated by Talat Parvez Rohilla, Secretary Higher Education Department, who said that the FDP is one of the series of programme by the J&K Higher Education intending to transform the traditional teaching learning method to new teaching learning practice. He further said that faculty members from various discipline of 34 colleges are going to be trained through this FDP which will finally make the students co learners of this initiative.

Principal of the college, Prof Ranjeet Singh Jamwal highlighted the importance of the workshop. He stressed upon the teaching learning interaction replacing chalkboards with the smart class room.
The first technical session lecture was also delivered by Talat Parvez Rohilla , on the topic `Role of ICT in Higher Education in 21st century’. He dwelt in length about Massive Open Online Courses, MOOCs, that allow participants free access and unrestricted participation to any course of their choice. He also elaborated how ICT can be used for enhancing the quality of education in Higher Education Department. He informed the participants about the implementable digital strategies for most of the educational institutions, firmly backed up by the Central Government’s initiatives. The whole session was very informative and enlightened the audience with the latest technology.
The first technical sessions was coordinated by Dr Pooja and the report was prepared by Dr Himani and Dr Sarabjeet Kour while vote of thanks was delivered by Prof Savita Jamwal.
The second technical session was delivered by Tasleem Arif, Head Department of IT BGSBU Rajouri. He focused upon the changing landscape of education. The report was presented by Prof Apfan Ali.
Others present on the occasion, included Prof Neeru Bhalla, Prof Kiran Raina, Prof Barbara Kaul along with others faculty members of the college. The FDP was organised by Prof Savita Jamwal, Prof Parveen Singh, Dr Pooja, Prof Apfan Ali, Dr Himani Arora and Dr Sarabjeet Kaur Sudan.
