State Vigilance Organization has detected 63 illegal and fake appointments made in the State Health Department and directed it to order their cancellation. These appointments have taken place in Budgam district in 2008. Incidentally, these 63 illegal and fraudulent appointments were also detected by the Audit and Inspection team of the Director Audit and Inspection Jammu and Kashmir that submitted its report to Finance Department last month. The report had listed 2222 fraudulent and fake employments, mostly on permanent basis, that have taken place across Kashmir valley in different hospitals and the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir since 1990s. We had brought this scam to the notice of the public in the columns of this paper also. But so far the Health Department did not take any action and even as reports suggest, the file dealing with the scam in question was buried somewhere in the secretariat archives. Obviously those who are affected would try to put the case under the carpet. We believe that the SVO should unearth the entire lot of 2222 fraudulent appointments made in Health Department since 1990, and ensure that no illegality is allowed to continue as it is injustice to the meritorious and deserving candidates. The SVO has to do some cleaning and sweeping of the Government departments and institutions. We should appreciate that it has initiated the task of cleaning the administration of corruption and scams as desired by the civil society.
