NOWSHERA, Dec 27: With the arrest of kingpin and his three associates, Nowshera police claimed to have busted a gang making fake certificates of Universities, colleges, schools and other professional/ technical institutes and extorting huge money from the beneficiaries.
Even some of the youth who have managed jobs on the basis of these fake degrees/ certificates are falling prey to blackmailing tactics of some of these members. The issue came to the notice of police recently after a victim revealed that one Mohd Shafiq, son of Mohd Rafiq, resident of Potha in tehsil Nowshera was issuing fake certificates to some locals and demanding huge money ranging from Rs 25,000 to 30,000 for each document.
The police under the supervision of Addl SP Parshotam Lal and DySP Pardeep Singh started investigation and managed to secure some documents which pertained to National Institute of Open Schooling Govt of India New Delhi, CMG Inter-College Lodian Varanasi, Board of Higher Secondary Education Delhi, Chowdhary Charan Singh University Meerath and Madhyamik Siksha Parishad, Utterpradesh. The police got these documents verified and found that all of them were fake.
During investigation the police found that three more persons were associated with the gang and Jagdish Singh Mankotia, son of Kashmir Singh, resident of Pathwar in tehsil Majalta of Udhampur was the king pin. On the basis of inputs provided by Mohd Shafiq, the police arrested Mankotia and two other associates namely Rahul Dev Singh Slathia, son of Joginder Singh Slathia, resident of Tusli Vihar, Khanpur – Nagrota and Ajay Sharma, son of Hari Chand, resident of Vikas Nagar, Sarwal (Jammu).
The police said a large number of documents were recovered from their possession. It was found that many youth managed Government jobs on these fake documents. The police was further investigating into the matter. It said some people may lose job after investigation is over. The police has registered case FIR No. 259/2012 under Sections 420/ 467/468/471 RPC.
