Fake currency haul, 6 nabbed

JAMMU, Feb 23: The Special Operation Group of  Poonch police recovered fake currency worth Rs 1.61 lakh and one kilogram heroin and arrested six inter- state smugglers today.
The intelligence sources said that based on specific information, SOG Poonch team conducted a raid at a location at Mendhar this evening and nabbed two persons and recovered fate currency and heroin worth ruprees one crore in the international market. The police party after the interrogation of these two persons,  nabbed four more persons from different locations and recovered some more currency and developed vital information.
IGP Jammu, Rajesh Kumar when contacted confirmed the recovery of  fake currency and maintained that some persons have also been nabbed. He further disclosed that police was expecting some more recovery and the operation was still in progress.
The sources further revealed that most of the currency notes were in Rs 500 denomination and it was believed to be pumped into this side from that side of the LoC. The police team has also managed to establish contacts  of the members of this gang operating outside the State. So far fake currency Rs 1.61 lakh has been recovered from different locations raided.
But it maintained that raids at some more locations over night were expected in the district and outside some more recovery could be made by tomorrow. All the district police officials have been directed to remain tight lipped over the development by the top officials, the sources maintained.
