SRINAGAR, Feb 9: Jammu and Kashmir police today arrested at least 12 persons and recovered counterfeit currency from their possession in the Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
A substantial amount of counterfeit currency was seized from the possession of the suspects, their included 30 bundles worth Rs 50,000 each, totalling Rs 1,500,000 from the Children’s Bank. Police also found Rs. 56,600 in real Indian currency. “We also seized five cars used in the crime with these registration numbers: JK15-4533 (Alto-K10), JK18B-2652 (Baleno), JK18D-3543 (Alto-K10), JK01AU-5420 (I-20), and PB01A-9585 (Etios),” police said.
Police identified the 12 accused persons as Riyaz Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir, resident of Kijpara Kangan, Ghulam Nabi Malik, son of Mohd Abdullah Malik, resident of Lari Preng, Arshid Ahmad Wani, son of Mohd Akbar Wani, resident of Hajan Bandipora, Mohd Zubair, son of Abdul Aziz Bijran, resident of Babanagri Wangat, Zahoor Ahmad Salro, son of Mohd Rafiq, resident of Shopian Bungam, Abaas Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Salam Sofi, resident of Shopian Bungam, Bilal Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Salam Sofi, resident of Shopian Bunpora, Faroze Ahmad Thokar, son of Ali Mohd Thokar, resident of Mastpora Keller Shopian, Raja Rameez, son of Abdul Rashid Shah, resident of Kulgam, Ishfaq Ahmad Wani, son of Mohd Akbar Wani, resident of Hajan Bandipora, Zubair Ahmad Bijran, son of Ghulam Hassan Bijran, resident of Poshkar Kangan, and Khurshid Ahmad Mir, son of Fayaz Ahmad Mir, resident of Kijpara.
In this regard, the spokesperson said, case FIR No. 08/2024 under relevant sections of the law was registered at Police Station Kangan, and further investigation was in progress.
