RAJOURI, Mar 6: While foiling an attempt of anti- social elements to circulate fake currency in the market, Rajouri police arrested a person and recovered fake currency worth Rs 99,000 from his possession.
A police spokesman said that a team of police headed by Station House Officer, Rajouri, Sameer Jillani and Deputy SP Headquarters, Surinder Khadyar during routine patrolling in the area, noticed a man walking along side road who started to behave suspiciously on seeing police team and changed his direction of walking.
Sensing suspicion, team of police intercepted the man after a brief chase and put him to frisking. The police team recovered some cash comprising of 198 currency notes of Rs 500 denomination. Police further informed that during examination of the recovered cash as per SOPs, the recovered 198 notes of 500 denomination amounting 99000 rupees were found to be fake, after which all the recovered currency notes have been seized.
The accused was identified as Abdul Khaliq Pervaiz, son of Munshi Khan, resident of Dhargaloon in Mendhar in Poonch district, he was arrested and a case FIR No. 116/2020 under Sections 489-C IPC has been registered against him at Rajouri Police Station.
Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Chandan Kohli said that a team of police headed by Additional SP Rajouri, Liyaqit Ali is further investigating the matter to identify and nab other accused involved in circulation of fake currency.
