JAMMU, Oct 5: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today alleged that recent fall of ‘PDP-BJP Coalition Government in the State brought cheer and excitement among the people of the State.
While addressing workers at Nai Basti, Sanjay Nagar, Qasim Nagar, Deshmesh Nagar, Rohi Morh, Gadhi Garh, Greater Jammu in Gandhi Nagar Assembly Constituency, Bhalla said that the people of Jammu are feeling let down and betrayed, as their problems have accumulated with each passing day under BJP-PDP Rule. He said the arrogance of power and lack of governance distanced the BJP from its core agenda, people of Jammu hugely realizing the mistake of putting them into the cradle of administrators.
“For over six decades, the BJP had been exploiting the Jammu sentiment by crying hoarse over the so-called discrimination, deprivation and neglect but when it came to delivering, they just raised their hands”, he said, adding that not only the BJP pushed the region to backwards but also turned out as a big obstacle in its development and progress.
In this context, he referred to erratic power and water supply, dilapidated condition of main and interior roads, scarcity of rations, deplorable hygienic conditions and fast crumbling administrative apparatus under their rule. He referred to protests and strikes of daily rated workers on regular basis and said that while a huge chunk of these people were taking to streets, the general public was suffering on account of utility services. Same was the situation with other segments of employees like teachers and Anganwari workers, who find themselves at the receiving end of BJP’s sadistic behaviour, he added.
Bhalla said that the perpetuation of bias by the BJP-PDP Govt by divesting Jammu region of its legitimate share in various sectors as clearly noticed during the last four years was wholly unacceptable to Congress party. He said that people of the region were feeling cheated and betrayed due to their complete neglect. He regretted that while the stone pelters of Kashmir were assured compensation and Govt jobs, the qualified youth of Jammu were left to agitate on the roads with no takers for their genuine grievances. Similar was the position in other sectors including health, power, tourism etc where BJP left flaunting a consolation prize in the shape of few crumbs, he said.
