False propaganda goes on against quota people: AIBCU

JAMMU, Dec 20: All India Backward Classes Union (Social) has claimed that a misleading propaganda has been started by some people that reservations for general categories in Jammu and Kashmir has gone down to 35 percent.
A spokesman of the AIBCU said that as per Supreme Court of India in a judgment of 1992 on Mandal report, there is a 50% cap after providing  reservations to SCs @15%, STs@7.5% and OBCs@27%.This all totalling to 49.5%.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the reservations given to SCs is 8%, for STs is 10% and to OBCs is 8% instead of 27%  thereby totalling to 26%. The rest of the 74% quota goes to general categories in one way or the other.
Reservations on the  name of areas are totally unconstitutional and illegal but still in place in spite of abrogation of Article 370. Reservations meant for SCs, STs and OBCs were vertical one but in JKUT all reservations other than SC, ST, OBC are too vertical which are unconstitutional and illegal.
Such reservations should either be eliminated or if there is will of the Govt to continue, then these reservations must be adjusted horizontally.
Since the parliament elections of 2024 in J&K, a false propaganda has been carried on to mislead the general categories against the reserved categories.
Govt has constituted the cabinet sub committee for rationalization of reservations under the chairmanship of Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo with two other Ministers as members.
AIBCU in a meet under the chairmanship of Mohd Latif Qureshi, discussed the matter which generally appear in print media and all the speakers and participants with one voice condemned this false propaganda against reserved categories.
Union members M R Bangotra, Prem Bagal, Vrij Mehra, Ashiq Hussain Hajam, Chaman lal Gandhi, Jagdish Verma, Gurmeet Singh, Lakhvir Singh and others were also present.
