KATHUA, Feb 14: A woman died soon after giving birth to a child in Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua, today triggering strong protest from her family members and relatives who blamed the Hospital for the negligence that caused the death of the young woman.
The protesting family members showed grave resentment over the alleged negligent death of the young woman and entered into heated exchanges with doctors and other hospital staff. The deceased has been identified as Anita Sharma, wife of Vinod Kumar, resident of Budhi, Kathua. Click here to watch video
The family members accused the medical staff for negligent death as the woman was serious before delivery and they did not refer the patient and also did not make arrangement of Ambulance to shift the woman to Jammu or neighboring Punjab for specialized treatment.
The uncle of woman, Dharam Pal said that Anita Sharma was admitted in GMC Kathua last night after some complicacy. The doctor conducted the ultrasound and declared the matter as complicated.
The family requested the authorities of Hospital to refer the patient to better hospital, Dharam Paul said, adding despite the repeated requests to doctors to refer the patient for better treatment, the staff on duty did not pay any heed to it and instead surgery was conducted during the mid night.
He said the newly born child was very serious and after few hour of delivery the woman also died in the morning. The family members said that the woman died after delivering the child due to negligence of medical team. “If they were not competent enough to handle the emergency case, why did not they refer the woman to a better hospital,. We could have taken her to any specialized hospital”, the wailing family members said.
The family members demanded investigation into the matter and suspension of doctor who did the cesarean.
Following the situation, DySP Kathua, Shammi Kumar reached on the spot and pacified the family members and assured them that the matter will be investigated.
However the Medical Superintendent, GMC, Kathua Sangeeta Ajrawat denied all charges of negligent death leveled by the family members of deceased. He said that patient was operated upon successfully and she died few hours later and it was the natural death.
The body was handed over to family members for last rites and newly born child is admitted in hospital in serious condition.
