Family, relatives protest against alleged police atrocities

KISHTWAR, Apr 19: Alleging atrocities in custody, the family members and relatives of a person, who was detained for questioning by police in a missing case and tried to allegedly commit suicide in Police Station Kishtwar yesterday, held protest, here today.
As per sources, the family members and relatives of Akhter Hussain, son of Ali Mohammad, a resident of Keshwan assembled at main town here and held protest against the Police Department.
The protesters alleged that Akhter Hussain has been tortured in the custody at Police Station Kishtwar.
Sources stated that Akhter Hussain along with his wife were called at Police Station Kishtwar for questioning in the missing case of Tariq Hussain of Keshwan, as the couple has called Tariq several times on mobile phone, before he went missing.
During questioning, Akhter Hussain went to washroom and allegedly tried to commit suicide, but cops saved him and shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar, from where he was later referred to GMCH Jammu, where he was responding to the treatment.
However, police also claimed that Akhter Hussain tried to commit suicide by hanging himself in washroom of Police Station Kishtwar and is undergoing treatment at GMCH Jammu.
In this regards, a case under FIR Number 95/18 under Section 309 RPC has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar and investigation started.
