RAJOURI, Dec 16: Khurshid Ahmed Bismil, a famous poet, educationist and philanthropist of the Pir Panchal Region was today honoured at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) in recognition of his superb work for writing the ‘tarana’ of the University.
Bismil was presented shawl and a memento by Prof Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor (VC) BGSBU and chief guest of the function, Prof Qayoom Hussain, VC, Central University of Srinagar (CUS). The ‘tarana’ of the University was recited first on the inaugural function of the Varsity on 15th December 2004, in presence of the then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, late Mufti Mohd Sayeed.
It is pertinent to mention that very recently the academic council of the University has accorded formal approval to this ‘tarana’ and officially adopted it as the University ‘tarana’ to be recited on all important functions of the University. The art and contents of the ‘tarana’ has been very well appreciated in the academic and literary circles of J&K.
Bismil is the founder patron of Muslim Educational Trust (MET), Baba Ghulamshah Academy, Thanna Mandi, which is the pioneer institution of the Pir Panchal region in the private sector where the idea of the BGSBU was first conceived in early seventies and formally projected in late nineties before the Government for establishing such a premier institution in this region.
