JAMMU, Aug 27: Jammu Kashmir Agri Entrepreneurship Development Association has said that the compensation of Rs 300 per Kanal announced by the State Government for damaged crop during flood and rains, was not adequate.
This is just like salt in the floor and farmers of Jammu province reject this proposal of Government, said State president of the Association, Kulbushan Khajuria while addressing a press conference, here today.
He said that  Government  should come forward for the cause of farmers and pay compensation as per cost of cultivation. “The actual cast of cultivation of paddy is Rs 1380 per Kanal while Rs 1350 for Maize. Government should give compensation as per the cost of cultivation,” he demanded.
Mr Khajuria said that Kisan Credit card holder farmers were paying insurance premium for their crop but not even a single insurance company bothered for the plight of the sufferers. “In this situation farmers are not safe. Govt should frame policy to protect the farmers,” he said.
Shiv Dev Singh, Karan Singh,  Divakar Singh, Aagri Singh, Balwant Singh, Jamet Ali, Vijay Saini, Roop Lal, Jaggi Singh, Kulbushan Sharma, Choudhary Paraksh and Raghu Nandan Khajuria were also present in the press conference.
