JAMMU, Oct 19: Kisan Sabha, Jammu in a meeting held here today expressed concern over the loss suffered by the farmers in various areas of Jammu due to damage caused to paddy crops by windstorm and rain that occurred sometime back.
In the meeting, the farmers appealed the State Government to support the farmers by compensating adequately the loss suffered by them as this was not only the crop but hard work of their 6-months which has been destroyed by rain and windstorm.
The meeting was presided over by Hari Chand Jalmeria (president, Kissan Sabha) while Dr Ghanisham Singh Charak, Dewan Singh, Tek Chand Sapolia, Uday Chand, Swarn Singh, Kuldip Singh expressed their views in the meeting.
Meanwhile, the farmers of Vijaypur also demanded compensation for their damaged paddy crop. “Two days ago, due to the windstorm and rain, the standing paddy crop of farmers in 150 kanal was spoiled at village Channi Manhasa, Vijaypur,” they alleged
They said the damaged crop belongs to farmers Baldev Raj, Tarsem Chand, Mulkh Raj, Ram Lal, Des Raj, Sansar Chand, etc., of Channi Manhasa village. “We met the SDM Vijaypur and shared our woes with him but he is ill-equipped to observe concerned Patwari,” the farmers said and demanded fair compensation from the Government for their crop losses.
