Farmers group flagged off for inter-state exposure visit

JAMMU, Feb 25: In a bid to provide exposure to the farmers, a group of 46 farmers was flagged off by Director Agriculture Jammu Dr S. S. Jamwal for an Inter-state exposure visit from Krishi Bhawan today.
The exposure visit is being organized under National Mission of Agriculture Extension and Technology (NMAET) for the farmers of the different Charcha Mandals of Ramban, Kathua, Samba, Reasi and Udhampur districts.
Director while interacting with the farmers informed that the exposure visit has been organized under Centrally Sponsored Scheme National Mission of Agriculture Extension and Technology with specific objective of sensitizing the farmers with Modern Agriculture Technology.  He added that there is a great need to further modernize agriculture on scientific lines on basis of experience gained on account of climate change phenomenon, accelerating urbanization, dwindling land holdings etc.
It was  informed that during the exposure visit the farmers will get acquainted with the demonstration on advances in protected cultivation, use of low cost soils for storage of farm produce and Micro- Irrigation for higher water use efficiency.
The farmers are scheduled to visit Centre of Excellence for Vegetables Gharunda Karnal, Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidayalaya, Haridwar, Sanji Watershed, Organic Farming Fields at Rishikesh, Forest Research Institute, Indian Remote Sensing Institute & Central Soil & Water Conservation Research Institute (CSWCRI) at Dehradun (Uttrakhand) during six days visit.   He asked the farmers to acquaint themselves with the latest technologies and get benefitted by implementing those technologies in their fields.
Sudesh Koul, Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs), Jammu also interacted with the farmers on the occasion.
Deputy Director Agriculture (Central) C. M. Sharma, Agronomist Sunil Koul, PPO Bulesh Zutshi, Assistant Agrologist N. K. Sharma, ASCO Deepak Kachroo, SMS Ravinder Thaploo and other officers were also present on the occasion. The farmers are being accompanied by Farm Management Specialist Arun Gupta, Demonstrator Sanjay Verma, and Agriculture Overseer Tarsem Lal.
