RAMBAN, Oct 27: A devastating fire, allegedly caused by an electrical short circuit, completely destroyed the home of farmer Kamal Singh in the Dharamkund area of Ramban today.
The fire incident, which took place around 12:30 pm, resulted in extensive losses, including household goods and vital winter provisions, estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees.
Police sources reported that the family members noticed smoke and flames rapidly spreading through the house. They immediately evacuated, raised an alarm, and informed the police. Inspector Rajeev Kumar and his team from the Dharamkund Police Station quickly responded and attempted to extinguish the fire by pouring water. A fire tender was dispatched from Ramban, but by the time it arrived, the flames had already engulfed the entire structure, leaving nothing behind.
Tragically, the fire claimed one cow and three goats, which were in the cowshed attached to the house. The family also lost over three quintals of Anardana (sour pomegranate), their main source of income, stored for sale along with food and ration stock for the winter months. The family has appealed to the local administration for assistance.
SHO Police Station Dharmkund, Inspector Rajeev Kumar confirmed the incident, noting that, fortunately, no human casualties occurred.
