Farmers suffer due to lack of irrigation facility: Vakil

SRINAGAR, July 29: Senior vice president of J&K Peoples Conference and former Minister, Abdul Gani Vakil, expressed grave concern today over the Government’s failure to adequately irrigate paddy crops. This neglect has left countless farmers in a dire situation, threatening both their livelihoods and the region’s food security.
“Despite repeated assurances and plans announced by the authorities, the irrigation infrastructure remains grossly inadequate. Farmers are reporting severe water shortages, leading to stunted crop growth and, in many cases, total crop failure. This situation has exacerbated the struggles of those who rely on these crops for their income and sustenance,” Vakil said while addressing party workers at Naipora and Tujjar Sharief in Rafiabad.
Vakil highlighted the farmers’ frustration as their crops dry up while they wait for the promised irrigation support. He emphasized that farmers are facing massive losses and criticized the lack of clear communication from the government on resolving the issue. He warned that without immediate action, the impact on the economy and food supply could be devastating. He demanded urgent measures, including the repair and expansion of irrigation systems to prevent further losses.
