SRINAGAR, Apr 13: National Conference (NC) president and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah today accused People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of using every tactic to demoralize the people from participating in the elections.
“I see those people, who are going in the direction of losing the elections, will use every tactic to demoralize the people (from participating in elections) but we will not be demoralized,” Abdullah told reporters when asked about the attack on the party activist in South Kashmir’s Khrew area in Pulwama district. “We have seen lot of guns and bombs, but we are not afraid of these attacks,” he said.
Abdullah ruled out that Pakistan will carry attacks to disturb the elections and said that security concerns remain everywhere during elections. “I have full hope that our neighbour (Pakistan) will not carry any attacking tactic in our elections,” he said when asked about the security concerns during elections.
Earlier, during his campaign address to the workers at Chanapora locality of Srinagar, Abdullah said the PDP will attempt to threaten them by firing bullets and exploding bombs to weaken them. “We have seen lot of guns and bombs, but we are not afraid of these attacks,” he said.
“Mufti Sahab, this nation has risen now. Your bullets and bombs will not do anything. Your gunmen will not do anything,” Abdullah said.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the militant attack on an NC leader’s house in Pulwama district is evidence of the risk involved in being in mainstream politics in Kashmir.
“The attack on Yawar’s residence is evidence of the continued risk associated with being a mainstream politician in Kashmir,” Omar wrote on micro-blogging website Twitter today.
“You may not like our politics sometimes but don’t question our commitment because we put our lives on the line every day for our beliefs,” writes Omar.
The Chief Minister offered condolences to the family of two police personnel, who were killed by the militants in the attack. “My condolences to the families of the police personnel killed in the attack on my party colleague in Pulwama district today,” Omar said.
The Opposition PDP president Mehbooba Mufti condemned the attack saying bloodshed will not solve any problem but lead to more tragedies only.
In a statement issued here the PDP president said:”There is no place for violence in politics and it is against all tenants of decency and political conduct. These unfortunate incidents only result into tragedies and will not yield anything.”
Mehbooba expressed solidarity with the families of the two policemen who lost their lives in what she called the senseless act. She paid tributes to the policemen and said that it is matter of grief.
Meanwhile, Farooq attacked his rival contestant the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Tariq Hamid Karra, for acquiring property worth crores.
“I was Chief Minister for three terms but I don’t have one crore. Whatever property I own is my ancestral. Where did he get this money from,” Abdullah asked while referring to Karra.
Karra who filed his nomination papers on Wednesday from the Srinagar constituency, that goes to polls on April 30, showed that his property is estimated to be around Rs 100 crores, which is 10 times more than his political rival, Farooq Abdullah.
Abdullah also lashed out at the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and said that if he becomes the Prime Minister, India will rip apart into pieces as he is a storm.
“Modi during his campaigning wore dresses of every culture and state but refused to wear a skullcap of Muslims. Our country does not require him. I will never stand with him. We need a PM who respects every religion and loves every religious community,” said Abdullah.
The Union Minister also lashed out a Mufti Sayeed for taking credit of opening of the Mughal road in Shopian district. “Mufti takes credit for building Mughal road. His grandmother has build it,” he said in a quirky remark toward Mufti, and added the Mughal road was planned to be built by his father, Sheikh Abdullah, even though India opposed its construction on the pretext that militants will enter through this route into Kashmir.
