Srinagar, Aug 23: Opposition National Conference (NC) president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah today pitched for an “organized movement” in the State to counter ongoing campaign against Article 35-A of the Constitution and called on people of all the three regions – Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh – to unite and fight together.

Farooq held a meeting here at his residence with the representatives of Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society (JKCS) which is spearheading a campaign to protect State’s special position. The NC president, briefing reporters after the meeting, said that he is “thankful” to the Civil Society for meeting him and his party leaders.
“I am thankful to civil society for holding a meeting with us and expressing their ideas on Article 35-A and informed that how they are going to hold talks with others,” he said. Farooq said “an organized movement should be here to fight together the campaign which is being run against the Article 35-A”. He said “the aim of this meeting is that (organized movement) only”.
The NC president expressed hope that the Civil Society will meet other (apparently separatists) leaders too and will reach positive outcome. “After that the Civil Society will again talk to you (media) about their next step,” he said, adding that the NC agrees with the stand of civil society on Article 35-A. “…I hope like us they too will hear them. We agree with them on this issue (of Article 35-A) and I believe they too will agree,” Farooq said.
The NC president suggested that people of Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir regions should unite and put up a joint fight against the alleged attempts to abrogate Article 35-A.
