JAMMU, Feb 4: National Conference president and former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah today described as “dictatorial’’ the CBI action in Kolkata against which West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is sitting on dharna.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Dr Abdullah took a dig at the Centre, without naming anyone, saying they are not masters of the country but people of the country are masters.
Describing the raids as “dictatorial,” Farooq said the country was under threat.
“Allegations leveled by Mamata Banerjee are right,” he added.
Accusing Narendra Modi Government of “misusing CBI’’ and other institutions, National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti also supported Mamata Banerjee, who is sitting on dharna since last night against CBI raid on Kolkata police chief’s residence.
Omar, who spoke to Mamata to convey NC’s support, alleged that the use of the CBI as a political tool has crossed all limits by the Modi Government.
He said a former CM (Modi) having such little regard for India’s federalism is shocking.
Taking to micro blogging site twitter, Omar said: “Just spoke to @MamataOfficial didi to convey the support of @JKNC_ as she sits in dharna. The use of the CBI as a political tool has crossed all limits as has the Modi Government’s misuse of institutions. A former CM having such little regard for India’s federalism is shocking’’.
Another former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti while expressing solidarity with Mamata Banerjee alleged that history stands testament to how J&K has faced the wrath of Central agencies.
She said it is disheartening to see how institutions are being hijacked only to discredit political opponents.
“It does not bode well for Centre-State relationship,’’ said Mehbooba, who headed a coalition Government with BJP before stepping down, after the saffron party pulled out it in June last year.
