Sir,
This has reference to the news sitem ‘Shocking revelation: one rape is committed every day in J&K’ published in DE sometime back.
The news item is indeed shocking as it reveals some facts which are quite disturbing and reveal our apathetic attitude towards this henious crime. At Societal level, people are very much responsible for letting this crime go unchecked and untreated. Had we been much concerned and taken this issue seriously, the present situation would not have arrived. Besides, Government too remains like mute spectator, and does not initiate measures which may provide justice to the victims. The role of police is important, so is that of judiciary. If police acts with swiftness, so should judiciary. It takes judiciary a pretty long time to adjucate justice. The judicial process is excruciating and time consuming. The remedy lies in hearing these cases in fast track courts where trials are conducted in a shorter span of time.
