Sir,
Untimely death of 14 passengers due to a mini-bus rolling into gorge on Feb 2 near Ramban made every one sad. The tears of waiting mothers, children and wives for those who couldn’t reach home due to negligence of the driver concerned will never be wiped, though an announcement for financial assistance by the Chief Minister is indeed encouraging act of sympathy.
Though the Traffic Deptt. is squarely responsible for failure to implement traffic rules, but the driver community is more accountable for such tragedies. Maximum accidents happen due to overloading and rash driving. It is moral responsibility of the driver concerned not only to be interested in charging fare but also to ensure safe travelling of the passengers. Like annual inspection of public transports, camps to educate these drivers must be organised so that moral and social values are inculcated in them besides technical know how to avoid accidents.
Yours etc….
