Sir,
Fatal road accident in July in Kishtwar-taking lives of 35 persons and injuring many others stand attributed to the driver’s negligence and overloading. Here, neither the driver nor the Traffic Police is affected much except the unfortunate victims. The wailing mothers and children whose beloveds lost their lives in this way, More or less, reflects something very wrong with the transport system in the State.
Over population doesn’t mean taking no care of human souls and making them sleep for ever for no fault of them. There can be several factors which contribute in such tragedies, but unskilled and unwise drivers are mainly responsible in such cases. The traffic mechanism can also not be absolved of such sins. What is needed now is that a strong committee of experts be constituted to recommend ways and means whereby such happenings can be minimised.
