JAMMU, Mar 28: National Panthers Party MLA, Balwant Singh Mankotia today raised in the Legislative Assembly the issue of Udhampur sports stadium, whose fate is hanging in balance despite earmarking of sufficient funds for the same.
Calling the attention of the Government towards the issue, Mr Mankotia said, “there is widespread resentment among the people over inordinate delay in the construction of the stadium”.
Responding to the issue, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din informed the House that an amount of Rs 1.50 crore was earmarked for upgradation of sports stadium at Udhampur. Out of that Rs 54 lakh were released to Superintending Engineer, PWD (R&B) Udhampur for executing some works.
“During the course of execution, some portion of the structure collapsed for which an enquiry has been ordered. The balance works are being tendered shortly”, the Minister said and assured the Member to personally look into the project.
