SRINAGAR, Jan 28: The Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) today called for the expansion of agroforestry in Jammu and Kashmir to meet timber demands for the wood-based industry and enhance rural economic opportunities, aiming to reduce carbon emissions.
The spokesperson for the association stated that former FCIK president Shakeel Qalander emphasized the necessity for collaborative efforts from the Government and stakeholders to improve agroforestry for sustainable timber, fodder and fuel wood supply.
Qalander highlighted the significance of building supportive relations between wood industry entrepreneurs and farmers supplying timber.
The spokesperson said members of the Advisory Committee pointed out recent high-level meetings with decisions such as the auto-renewal of licenses, expecting formal orders soon. “FCIK is actively seeking exemption from licenses at the central and UT Government levels to provide long-term relief to agro-forestry based industries,” he said.
He added that Ghulam Mohammed Trumboo, President of the SMOA, welcomed the FCIK Advisory Committee, acknowledging their past efforts.
