Srinagar, Apr 28: The Enforcement Wing of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) today fined 17 shopkeepers besides sealing mutton shops for resorting to violations of norms while warning of cancellation of licenses in case of repeated violations.
The officials said that the Enforcement squad of this Department under the direction of Assistant Director Enforcement Kashmir Mushtaq Ahmad Wani conducted a market checking drive in various areas of Srinagar City.
The areas included Khayam, Khanyar, Nowshera, Awanta Bhawan, Jawahar Nagar, Rajbagh, Rangreth, Bemina, Qamarwari, Arampora, Zainakote, HMT, Fruit Mandi Parimpora, Noora Hospital Shalteng.
AD, Enforcement, Kashmir Mushtaq Ahmad Wani told Excelsior that the market checking drives have been started following complaints from different sections of society regarding illegal enhancement of rates by the shopkeepers dealing with essential commodities
FCS&CA said that during the market checking, 130 business establishments were inspected and a penal sum of Rs 22600 was collected as a fine from 17 erring shopkeepers for violation of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 while 3 mutton shops were also sealed.
“The shop keepers have been reprimanded on spot and directed to remain careful in future in case they continue to overcharge the innocent consumers. In case they continue overcharging their licenses will be cancelled and their establishments will be sealed in future business,” Wani said.
Officials said that rotten fruits and vegetables were destroyed on spot by the team in various areas. “The drive will continue in the same passion in future as well & whosoever found violating the norms will be brought to justice.
