* DDC elections no substitute to Assembly polls: Mir
Excelsior Correspondent
BISHNAH/ KATHUA, Dec 9: Congress has asked BJP if people are happy with the performance of its Government and State leaders, why it needs the help of the battery of national leaders and other star campaigners including film celebrities to go to every nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir to seek votes for the party in these local elections to the Panchayats and District Development Councils.
Senior AICC leader and incharge J&K affairs, Rajni Patil, who arrived here today on a day’s visit, questioned this to BJP in a workers’ meeting at Bishnah today afternoon. She said that fear of losing these elections lurks in the heart’s of BJP High Command forcing it to despatch several Central Ministers and film celebrities to campaign for party’.
She said common people are highly annoyed with the multiple failures of the BJP and it’s arbitrary actions in Jammu and Kashmir. Each and every section of the society especially the Youth and farmers are feeling cheated by the BJP for its false promises and Anti farmers and Anti poor policies and programmes.
Patil said that the people now understand the diversionary tactics of BJP especially during elections and finding escape routes to seek votes on it’s promises and delivery on ground. The Congress Party would never divide the people on religion, religion or caste basis for electoral benefits, but BJP leaves no opportunity to exploit the emotions of people for vote banks politics.
Addressing the meeting, JKPCC chief GA Mir said that the BJP has indulged in politics of divide and deceit for political interests and running away from holding early Assembly elections even more than two and half years of Governor rule.
Post August 5, last year, the historical State has been reduced to a UT which is no better than a municipal corporation for which the people want to know the reasons behind punishing the people especially of Jammu region, who gave huge mandate to BJP and brought BJP to power in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that it’s good that elections to the DDCs of Panchayat Raj system is being held, all of a sudden but these bodies can’t be substitute for the Assembly, even though powerless in the existing status, until full statehood with all rights.
Mir asked BJP as to how long people of Jammu and Kashmir shall be kept deprived of their elected Government and when the full statehood with all rights shall be restored to the people . It’s the right of the people and they shall not wait too long for securing their rights to statehood and an elected Government.
AICC secretary Sudhir Sharma, former minister and vice president Raman Bhalla, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, general secretary Manmohan Singh, State secretaries Shashi Sharma, Pawan Raina and DDC candidate Manohar Lal Moton were prominent those attended. Similar rally was held for party candidate Veena Devi in Kathua.
