JAMMU, Nov 5: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has accused the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership of deliberately delaying Panchayat, Urban Local Body, and the Legislative Assembly Polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
Questioning the BJP as to how long people will be denied their democratic right of being governed by the elected representatives, the BSP leadership said that BJP has feared a defeat in Jammu and Kashmir elections.
“And this is the reason they don’t want the elections to be held in Jammu and Kashmir,” said the party leadership.
Addressing a joining function at Village Gagian, RS Pura, where several people voluntarily entered into the BSP fold, the BSP J&K UT President SR Majotra requested all the secular forces to join hands to thwart the evil designs of BJP leadership who according to him are misleading the poor people with false slogans of development and draining the state resources and exchequers for the outsiders.
He further appealed the LG Manoj Sinha to issue authority letter of allotting five marlas of land to the landless poor as promised by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Demanding a timeline from the BJP for holding urban local bodies, panchayat and Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the BSP General Secretary Rajesh Gupta alleged that the saffron party is shying away from the democratic exercise as it fears defeat.
“How long the people shall be deprived of elections to urban local bodies, panchayats and Assembly? The only reason for the delay in holding elections is that the BJP fears defeat,” said Gupta.
As per a statement, Advocate Shashi Bhushan Thappa presided over the joining function along with Gurbaksh Gaurav.
