JAMMU, Oct 14: Pursuant to specific inputs that some irrational veterinary/poultry products containing antibiotics are being sold under the garb of feed supplements, a team of officers of Drugs & Food Control Organization carried surprised supervisory checks/inspections of a number of veterinary/animal drug dealers in Jammu district.
During the course of supervisory checks the dealers dealing in these veterinary/poultry products were found stocking such products for sale containing antibiotics and labeled as feed supplements to induce growth of the live stocks as per their label claim.
On spot directions were issued to stop sale of such veterinary formulations in the interest of public health in general. Procurement/distribution/product permission details of such supplements have been demanded from dealers for further investigation.
The stocks of such feed supplements viz Econella, Mfd By: M/s Boivet Industries Unit II, Daman (U.T); Levostin, Mfd By: M/s Biograde Organics, Naroda, Ahmedabad amounting to Rs 35,000/, were confiscated in order to prevent their misuse which otherwise can prove detrimental to public and animal health care.
