Female baby killed, mother injured in burn case

JAMMU, Dec 13: A 2.5-year-old female baby died and her mother suffered injuries in a burn case occurred today at Channi Rama area of city outskirts.
According to the reports, around 6 AM today, a fire broke out in a make-shift house (jhuggi) near CRPF camp, Channi Rama and soon spread to adjoining another ‘jhuggi’. Detecting flames, those living in ‘jhuggis’ ran out for safety but in the grip of fear, a 2.5-year-old child identified as Ashiya Begum daughter of Rashid Ahmed, resident of Burmam, was left sleeping in one of the ‘Jhuggis’.
However, before the baby was rescued, she had received severe burn injuries while her mother namely Kurba Begum (30) also suffered minor injuries. Till the fire tender reaches the spot, both the jhuggies turned into ashes. The injured mother-baby duo was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where the baby was declared as brought dead by the doctors. However, condition of the mother was stated to be stable.
Narwal Police had taken cognizance of the matter.
