JAMMU, Mar 14: Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Jammu, the Festival of Plays 2020-21, will open at the Abhinav Theatre, here from March 15 to 29, 2021.
During the festival, theatre enthusiasts will be treated to a culturally diverse bouquet of modern Indian plays in Dogri, Punjabi, Kashmiri, Hindi, and Hindustani. The festival will host a total of 15 plays, including three in Dogri, one each in Punjabi, Kashmiri, and Hindustani, and nine in Hindi.
Staging the original and translations of the plays by well known international and national playwrights, the selected participating amateur theatre groups in the festival include Hill Thespian, Manoranjan Kala Kendra, Vomedh Rangmanch, Viraj Kala Kendra, J&K Bhoomi Human Welfare Society, Drishay Nat Manch, Lakshya “The Aim”, Samooh Theatre, Bhartiya Kala Kendra, Society for Environment, Education and Modern Art, Chinar Art Foundation, The Performers, The Kalakar’s, Pancham Society for Art, Culture, Education and Social development and Nav Durga Kala Manch.
The Festival of Plays 2020-2021, starting from March 15, 2021 at Abhinav Theatre, daily at 5 p.m., with free entry, is an opportunity for theater aficionados to experience the modern-day theater practices in Jammu and also the platform for participating theatre clubs to vie with each other for awards in different categories.
The opening day performance of the festival will be Hill Thespain’s Jaayez Hatiare, a Hindi adaptation of Albert Camus’s original French play ‘Les Justes’.
