Fiat to introduce Jeep Grand Charokee in India during Oct

BANGALORE, Mar 2:  Italian car maker Fiat S.P.A, which has  a strategic alliance with US based Chrysler, will be introducing  iconic American SUV Jeep Grand Charokee in India during October  this year.
Disclosing this at a opening of Fiat exclusive sales and service point here, Mr Enroco Atanasio, Managing Director of  Fiat Group Automobiles India, said initially the company will bring the SUV as a completely built unit and later it will be localised and manufactured in Fiat’s plant at Ranjangaon near Pune by 2015.
The company had not finalised the price line of the SUV but it is likely that the full-size Jeep Grand Cherokee could come powered by a 237 bhp diesel engine.
Speaking on the future plans, he said the company’s flagship model in India the compact hatch back ‘Punto’ was received very well and the sold 12,000 units of its best selling model last year. The company is looking to double the sales of this model during current year.
“Our long time objective is to garner five per cent market share in the Indian car market and we will be introducing nine new
models along with significant reformed current models of Punto and sedan Liena. ‘Punto currently accounts for one per cent in the B segment, but in Bangalore it has a market share of 2 per cent,’ he said.
