Fighting plastic pollution

Sir,
This refers to article titled ” Fighting Plastic Pollution ” by Dr Vivek Arya and Dr Vikas Sharma which appeared in DE on June 5th. Beating plastic Pollution is this year theme of world environment day which was celebrated few days back. The celebrations go on for a week or more and during this time students , civil society actors and Govt agencies keep organizing workshops , seminars , rallies. I believe the only way to  beat plastic pollution is to enforce its ban completely across our state especially which is ecologically a fragile zone.
Inspite of J&K High Court’s direction on ban on polythene,  the sale, manufacture, and its trade is not at all coming to a halt. There is a big nexus between those who do not want to end plastic pollution in our state. The authorities at the helm of affairs like Police , Municipal authorities and Pollution Control Board officials are also not performing their duties to enforce the HIGH COURT ban on polythene. I am 100 percent  sure that if polythene is banned completely in J&K for just 2 months, people will find alternatives. They will start carrying jute or cloth bags while going to shop. The only issue around menace of plastic  is availability of plastic carry bags and packing material. Not only the carry bags should be banned but the ban should be enforced on all the food material available in plastic packing.
Yours etc…
