Petition regarding dearth of staff

JAMMU, Dec 22: In a petition filed by Joginder Singh regarding dearth of staff at various levels in High Court and District Courts, pay anomaly in respect of officers and staff and promotional avenues to Law Graduate Readers of the High Court, a Division Bench of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court comprising Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice Rajesh Sekhri has granted time to the respondents to file compliance report failing which the Secretary, Finance Department along with Secretary, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Department shall appear in person on the next date of hearing.
When the petition came-up for hearing, Division Bench observed, “vide order dated 02.08.2023, this court had directed the Chief Secretary to convene a meeting with Principal Secretary to Government, Finance Department; Registrar General, High Court of J&K and Ladakh; Secretary to Government, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Department, so as to finalize the mode and method regarding creation of posts in a time-bound phased manner by the next date of hearing”.
“Even vide order dated 20.09.2023, this court had specifically directed the respondents to place on record the proposal for creation of rest of the posts to be created in the final and last third phase. However, till today respondents have not complied with this very direction”, the DB said.
